Monique Peterson
Monique Peterson is a practicing jeweler, living and working in South Philadelphia. She draws inspiration from dualities that exist in all things: masc/femme; hard/soft, heavy/light, as well as geometric/organic. Monique’s work aims to subvert the performativity of gender, using a medium that is steeped in gender identity. For her, carving wood, stone, and wax is meditative in converting objects into revealing their new form.
monique went to the University of the Arts where she graduated in 2013 with a bfa in metalsmithing/jewelry. she has worked as a jeweler at various locations, as well as teaching jewelry classes.
